Synthes Acquires Line of High-Speed Surgical Power Tools BY LAUREN UZDIENSKI, NOVEMBER 8, 2010

Synthes announced the acquisition of the Anspach Effort, a manufacturer of high-speed surgical power tools for use in orthopedic, neuro and ENT procedures. The transaction will enable Synthes to create a dedicated power tools division, which they anticipate will bring in $200 million in annual sales.

Noting Anspach's global distribution network, which extends to more than 50 countries, Synthes said the deal would "substantially expand our power tools product offering to hospitals and surgeons worldwide." Anspach is based in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where they have product development, manufacturing, education and service facilities.

Among Anspach's products are the pneumatic high-speed systems Black Max and XMax and the electric system eMax 2 Plus. The company says that one of the benefits of their devices is that no tools are required to assemble cutting burrs or attachments.
