MedShape Solutions received a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I grant from the National Institutes of Health to support the development of the company's shape memory polymer device for meniscal repair. The company says that additional funding phases could take the total award amount to over $1.5 million upon the achievement of key phase I development milestones.

Ascendx Spine, formerly AOI Medical, received the CE mark for its Ascendx VCF Repair System and its Ascendx Acu-Cut Vertebral Augmentation System for the treatment of vertebral compression fractures.

Pioneer Surgical received Canadian regulatory clearance for its Sternal Cable System, which is indicated for closure of median sternotomies. The device will be distributed in Canada by Ryan Medical, Inc.

Smith & Nephew launched their single-use DYONICS PLATINUM Series Shaver Blades. The devices are used during arthroscopic procedures for resection and debris evacuation.

SpineSource launched the WAVE-O Expandable Lumbar Interbody Fusion Cage in the U.S. The WAVE-O is manufactured in Germany by Advanced Medical Technologies (AMT) and distributed exclusively in the United States by SpineSource.

TransCorp Spine appointed Gary Henley, former CEO at Wright Medical, Executive Chairman of the Board. TransCorp Spine is developing minimally-invasive, tissue-saving products and procedures for the treatment of cervical spine pathologies.
