Zimmer Biomet to Acquire RespondWell BY ANDREW VAHRADIAN, OCTOBER 31, 2016

Zimmer Biomet entered into an agreement to acquire RespondWell, LLC, a telerehabilitation company that has developed a system that provides personalized, clinician-supervised post-surgical physical therapy within a patient's home.

RespondWell's platform offers outpatient rehabilitation clinics, hospital systems, and senior care facilities prevention, rehabilitation and clinical content modules and clinician tools that help practitioners assess, assign, engage and report solutions for patients. The company was founded in 2003 and is headquartered in Grand Rapids, MI.

With the healthcare system evolving into a value-based reimbursement environment, hospitals and care providers are being required to assume responsibility for patient outcomes during the direct post-operation phase through to the rehabilitation period.

In order to address the emerging industry transformation, Zimmer Biomet developed its Signature Solutions, a remote rehabilitation platform that provides a strategically-curated suite of technologies and services designed to help healthcare providers to oversee and optimize post-surgical recovery outcomes. This will streamline the delivery of care and maximize the value across an entire episode of care.

With this transaction, Zimmer aims to strengthen its Signature Solutions commercial offering by integrating a comprehensive, at-home telerehabilitation capability that will encourage greater patient engagement and compliance. Zimmer anticipates RespondWell's platform will help its Signature Solutions clinical care team provide a more interactive and motivating physical therapy program in a home setting and therefore augment the quality and outcomes of post-op patient care.
